i decided it was time to go for another walk on Tuesday as i felt my Tequila fuelled weekend of painting the curb in the finest Kiwi attempt of Garlic Rice and Ribs was taking its toll on my health i had worked hard to right before i left New Zealand…. not to mention the burger king to cheer me up on the sunday.
Bohol and Alona Beach feel like the humidity and heat have been ramped up to 11 and had the Knob ripped off, it just feels genuinely hotter than Palawan and Cebu.
its 7:30 Am and i feel this would be perfect for a morning stroll and after about a KM i decide that its too hot for just walking and decide a 5KM run might be better suited…. you know… hard and fast and get it over and done with.
leaving the Glamping accommodation and turning right i find that their is a well suited loop that goes past the airport and up a suburban dual lane road then back to the accommodation and it measures exactly 5.5KM so perfect.
the Run takes a standard 30 minutes which is about an average pace for me so its nice to know my weight loss has improved my stamina running.
i return to Glamping Alona in a ball of fire and sweat dripping from every inch of my body. I Return to Room #6 which Marge and I are sharing and grab a Towel and make a break for the showers, 20 minutes under a stream of cold water didn’t even make a dent in the heat I was feeling.
when i got out and got changed Marge had used our breakfast vouchers to order Coffee and a Filipino breakfast mean ” will keep her on for a few more days”.
the Breakfast is a Cup for Steamed rice, marinated pork , Pawpaw salsa, one wedge of Cucumber, one of Tomato , and a Chorizo sausage that is kind of sweet and spicy.
Today we will go down to Alona Beach and have a look around the town, Informed Marge that today i have decided to shave my head as i cant keep up with the heat over here and I feel like Im giving birth to a 13 lb baby every 30 minutes.
the walk to Alona Beach is around 1.5KM to the waterfront. but we had a few missions to complete before we get there
- New Sim Card
- key chain for the backpack
- coffee
the Walk takes around 40 Minutes and we accomplish everything we need to, we also find a barber for on the way back to Glamping Alona.
the Alona Beach is around 600 Meters and quite short in the sense that from the top of the beach down to the waters edge would only be 35 Meters. the beach is white sand and the water is Azure blue in classic Philippines for.
we find a café down on the waters edge and I Order a Cappuccino. which is really just UHT milk and filter coffee, to accompany that i order a Cold home brewed ginger tea. Marge orders a iced chocolate shake and we sit there under an Umbrella taking photos and playing cards in the 11AM Sun.

Last Card is the game of choice for today, quite a simple game but can also be a lot of fun and doesn’t require a lot of mental commitment to the situation at hand.
after our horrifically priced drinks we walk further down to the eastern end of the beach and deicide to take a Swim, the water is not much colder than body temperature and feels like a warm bath when you submerge yourself in it, we both make comment about how our skin on our face stings meaning our skin has been ravaged by the suns radiation on our walk down to the beach side.
30 minutes later in soaking wet clothes we wander back towards the beach entrance and get a Bee Farm Ice Cream. Bohol is well knows for its Bee Farms that export all over the Philippines and their ice cream is pretty good as well, I have a scoop of classic Salted Caramel and Marge has something that looks like Barney the Dinosaurs seed squirted in a cone…. apparently the flavoured Ube’Taro which i have no idea what it is…….. so i cant be of much help… here is a photo to help.

after our ice cream that melted at warp speed reminding me of the ice creams in new Zealand that would melt down your arm before you could even get the first lick in. we had to go find a barber.
450 Meters around the streets we found one with help of our friend google, we walked in and asked the young barber to do a Number 0 cut with a fade to the beard and her looked at us blankly for a few seconds trying to understand why i wanted to cut off my luscious manly locks of black hair in the same consistency of Black Beauty.
i sat in the chair and as he made his first pass on the Zero cut i yelled out “STOP!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!”….. Marge ad i found it funny….. the barber did not see the funny side
10 minutes later we are hailing a trike to take us back to the Glamping area to avoid anymore harmful rays to our 30 Year old skin.
Glamping Alona has increased in customers since we left, a mixture of Asian and foreign people have arrived giving the area a more lively feel, its 2 PM so we sit beside the pool and have a few beers.
Marge posts her heart out on the Instagram and i sit there and read my Greg Ilse Book and we slowly bake in the sun.
Marge orders lunch for us and as the sun sets we can both feel our shoulders getting slow roasted.

after 2 bears and half a club sandwich I retire to Room #6 for a well deserved nap with my freshly cut hair.
i wake up at 6pm and make my way back to the bar in the middle of the glamping area to make new friends and have some dinner.
after dinner Marge and i make the next plan of attack, which we decide to Ferry ride over to Dumaguete…. and yes this time it was no option but to take the fast boat with AC.

with the boat booked we sat down with Augustin and spoke about our plans for Wednesday before we ship out on Thursday AM at 8AM……..and that is a story for tomorrow.
Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.
