I was never good at making Plans

Wednesday came around quick enough and when i awoke at around 7Am it sounded like world war three had broken out on the tin roof of the Inngo Travelers in. I looked out the window and the rain was bucketing down outside, the good thing with this is I can have a lie in and not feel guilty.

i had worn a pair of my old running shoes on the boat yesterday and they were sitting outside “drying”… well not drying …. just starting to smell like the dirty street water i walked past everyday on my travels. i probably need to decided if i keep them or toss them…. they make dog farts smell aromatic in comparison (missing that silly woof and his sassy morning attitude)

I text Maga to see if she wanted to get breakfast and we agreed to meet at a food stall on the beachfront that was half Filipino food, and Half Greek. yes odd combination but its food was good, one thing with El Nido is all the food is priced for tourists and eating seems to be the biggest daily expense next to accommodation.

I oddly ordered the Vegetarian breakfast with a Ginger tea, the breakfast consisted of 2 Eggs…. Rice (woohoo), grilled eggplant , freshly diced tomatoes and a side of Mango. the Ginger tea was Boiled street water with freshly chopped ginger and a shot of honey on the side. according to Maga Eggplants and Ginger grow like wild weeds over here and are a very common vegetable in most forms of cooking here.

Breakfast

After breakfast I didn’t really have a next step so my booking at the InnGo Travelers in was due to end at 12 o’clock today, the great thing is most places are happy for you to extend your stay and will give you the same rate that you got when you booked… so that a plus.

i returned to the accommodation and booked another night so i could plan my next stop on the journey. i also asked nicely if there was a place that could do laundry and the InnGo does it by Kilo , washed and dried.

i had around 3.2 KG of clothes that needed washing from the past week and it cost me a total of 4.50NZD to get this done on 12 hour Turn around.

i left the accommodation naked…… no i didn’t. i spend the next hour rearranging my Pack to try and make it slightly more efficient for when i get to my next stop.

at 1 PM i realised i had been Procrastinating on writing my blog so i decided that i must catch up on the last 3 days. when we were out for breakfast we walked past a backpackers that didn’t look particularly open. however beneath that at street level was an upbeat Cafe and with the heat of the day i could use an Iced Tea.

the Cafe was Called Outpost beach Cafe, the interior was done in a rustic design with a decore that was a bit more “western” rather than a few plastic chairs plonked out around a camping table. I sat in the back corner and ordered a iced tea and started to catch up on some much needed Blogging, the cafe had a few scattered tourists in it but i suddenly realised that their wifi password was written on the wall…. that would explain why no one else seems to be actually ordering any food or drink.

at this time of year there seems to be a large demographic of French speaking tourists and i noticed this in the streets and also on the island hopping journey yesterday, their summer holidays would have just started.

the blogging is taking its time and Maga texts and asks what i have been upto. I tell her where i am and she is welcome to watch me tap away on my computer until the battery dies.

she arrived and ordered a San Miguel – Apple and joined me at my table… i was still very much entwined in my blog so i think she spent most of her time voice messaging her best friend in Cebu.

once my laptop battery was dead i had managed to punch out 3 blogs and scavenge some photos from the past couple of days, I have found that i am less focused on photos this holiday and i think thats due to the heat but also my camera is alot heavier than my last one so it becomes a bit of a hassle to pull ut out of my bag every time i want to use it.

the sun was starting to set which means i now get to have my second meal of the day, the Inngo had mentioned a restaurant that they said was good called “art Coffee” cafe and bar.
i hadn’t managed to find it on the first few days but after finally getting my slow phone internet to work i could search for it.

we walked down to the place in question and had a look at the menu. it was a bit of everything, Italian, American and Filipino. I had a bowel of fries (as i hadn’t tried PH fries) and a pork cutlet with a green tea
Maga ordered Tuna Fettuccini with a home made iced Tea.

when the fries arrived i was horribly disappointed. Mr Gee in Mosgiel would leave these rookies in the dust with his Deep Fryer on Gordon road Mosgiel…..well if it tastes bad the only thing to do is take a leaf out of my fathers vocabulary and ask for some RTF

“Red Tukka Fucker” (T-Sauce)

a green bottle was brought over and it was nothing like i had ever tasted from a sauce bottle it was red obviously but the sweetness of the sauce was on another level as i tried to enjoy my fries i started inspecting the bottle it came in and i came across a print on the label at the bottom which really made me think.

was this bottle old and has kept being refilled, is it some vintage sauce they pulled out of a ship wreck 50 years ago…. i really was puzzled

the bottom of the bottle had the instructions

“SHALL NOT BE SOLD OR RESOLD IN: EUROPE, AFRICA, THE MIDDLE EAST AND THE FORMER SOVIET UNION”

for those of who are scratching their heads trying to remember what those territories are ….
Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Belorussia, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia

so im unsure why that is…. because this sauce is defiantly not culinary art by any stretch.

After dinner i decided on my next step that would include a dangerous ride back to Puerto and a plane ride

i made some bookings and decided to call it a night.

traditionally i would end my writing on a quote from someone inspirational but in this case i came across this quote to highlight his weakness and ironic demise.

“Anyone can deal with victory. Only the mighty can bear defeat.”
