The Story of a Chicken that took down KFC

Sunday

Check out time was 12PM at the hotel and from there my Air Aisa Flight was at 3PM from Manila Terminal 4

walking to the Plane!

the flight was only an hour in the air so not a huge commitment, i wish i could say that i had an amazing transit
story to Puerto…. but no sadly.

*** 4:45PM

i arrived in Peurto and it was a text book arrival, the plane didnt fall out of the sky!
all they do is scan your body temp to make sure your not running a fever upon arival yet again makes sense.
if you fail guess what… RAT test and told to isolate…. and this doenst cost ther economy $60 billion dollars and inflation

after that you exit the terminal and low and behold…. 3 taxi cabs to satisfy all arvials at the airport! you had to write your name
and hotel / hostel on a clip board and when someone was heading your direction you got the opportunity to share a cab with them

up untill 2022 they allowed a thing called Taxi Trikes and these are a fabricated motorcycle with a side car.
however these were band from the airport for some unknown reason. i assume for safety reasons but i couldn’t actually find any articles online to confirm this.

the transit to y accommodation was around 15 minutes, Puerto Princess is an area with nothing special to offer.
it originally serviced the island of Palawan for its port which is used mainly used for fishing and transiting of goods to the surrounding islands of the lower south in the PH.

the Starlight Guest hotel was right on the front of the port and you could look out across the bay, the room was large and the bed was like camping on plywood.

i had heard about a fried chicken restaurant chain in the PH that is called JolliBee. it out numbers KFC Substantially in the PH and sells a similar product…. so this must be investigated!

Jollibee 1980

i noticed on my ride into town there was one a few blocks back from the hotel so i thought i would investigate this

Jollibee was a Fast food restaurants that spawned itself in 1978 Manila, by 1979 in the town of Santa Cruz, it opened its first franchise outlet in 1979. today it has over 1200 outlets internationally including Southeast Asia, the Middle East, East Asia (Hong Kong, Macau), North America, and Europe (Spain, Italy, UK)

seems to be a treat for the locals after a hard days work, the menu doesn’t work as you would expect in a KFC you can only buy a maximum of 2 pieces of chicken, this comes with a Bowel of Rice and some gravy.

it costs around 200 Paeso’s for this meal and you have the choice of normal and spicy chicken so in this instance I had one of each , i also tried one of their ” Juicy Beef Burgers” their words not mine. this was originally called a Yumburger in the 1970’s and was what put them on the map before MacDonald’s hit the market in 1981 and insulated them against their better know American competitor that is more expensive

the chicken is battered and cooked fresh for each order, this slows down delivery time but in turn ensures each customer has the same experience each time, the chicken is not as salty as KFC and defiantly retains more water in its cooking process to make it more succulent

naturally with a slightly less salty batter, the drippings that are used to make the gravy is less of an intense overload of your pallet . a smoother gravy as you would say.

the rice…well that is rice…. white…sticky…..warm….. yeah rice.

the burger ….. rubbish…. why bother…. so new rule don’t go to a steak house and order Italian…. your
wasting your own time, the burger was a good sized beef patty but overloaded with sweet mayonnaise and ketchup

After that I returned to the accommodation the nice lady behind the counter took my booking for the van to El Nido which cost 800 Paeso’s and would leave between 7-8:30 AM at the hotel…. very punctual time in my opinion nothing like an exact timeslot to make a plan to.

bed time for me I think still getting the jetlag sorted!
