Unfortunately my last day in Poland wasn’t as exciting as i hoped it would be
I had spent 3 days here limping around, and by Thursday my legs were toast!
I needed a day off, my body was screaming for a break and i decided to actually listen to it for once.
I awoke at 11 Am and my leg felt rather okay…until i got up and walked on it, I doused it with my spray the nice Polish girl had sold me the day before, which turns out has a topical anaesthetic in it which takes the edge off.
I limped down to the cafe Nero and spent some time catching up on my last 2 days of the blog that had got away from me, it was about 11.45 am by this time and it was just too hot for a coffee to i decided to take advantage of an Iced coffee… i have never been game enough to order one, but it was time to take the plunge.
For those of you who haven’t tried an iced coffee its nothing like the ones you might buy from your local service station or dairy in New Zealand… in comparison that is dirty dish water, an iced coffee is what you might expect….. a cold espresso shot with cold foamed milk and to be frank…. its not half bad, there is no sugar in it an it really is like drinking a cold coffee…. surprise surprise.
I sat in the shade of an umbrella outside and smashed out 2 blogs for my travels of the last 2 days , by the time i was done the time was creeping onto about 3 PM.
I slowly made my way back up Francuska Ave back to the hostel and took this as a prime opportunity to smash out some more of my John Grisham book.
I sat on the deck at the Hostel in the 35 degree sun taking the Sun’s beating like a champ and every page was another step to the end of the book …. and every minute was one minute close to the sun disappearing behind the neighbouring building, as 5.30 cropped around i was saved and the sun had darted below the city sky line .
My leg ached still and the spray was starting to get on my nerves… it was good but not great and i decided to put on my Jandals and slowly walk up the road as there was a local hospital near by that had an even bigger drug store.
On my walk to the drug store i marched straight past the one i had been to the day before as I couldn’t bring myself to face the nice polish girl behind the counter again , i rounded the next block.. took a left… a right… then another left ….then i had to open google maps…..eventually i arrived at what i was call a Super Apoteka, there was an Asian gentleman behind the counter and i slapped my Maths homework down on the counter and he completed it with out even looking up!!!!! ….. no just joking …i asked if he spoke english and he did… fluently i might add i asked him for the strongest over the counter pain meds they could supply, he retuned with a box of 800Mg Nurofen and said these would do the trick.
2 pills later on an empty stomach, indigestion and a lot of water to calm the acidity imbalance in my stomach and i was relived of all ailments…. i ask myself why I didn’t do this on the first day!
As i wandered back to the Main Street of my suburb i decided it was probably a good time to get some food, i found an authentic polish restaurant that looked to be okay.
“Table for one thanks” the waiter looked at me bluntly and said “will you need an english menu”
I replied with yes and took a seat outside.
For my starter i had a stuffed red pepper with Cheese and paprika, this was crumbed and deep fried, it was an interesting combination of flavours but all in all the paprika was the over powering Smokey flavour.
My main I couldn’t tell you, it was a home made Sausage wrapped in bacon, it was very salty and was also served with a Yoghurt and paprika style sauce and finished with 2 baked potatoes. The salty flavours of the sausage was not my forte but i finished it as I hadn’t eaten all day.

When the waiter came to collect my plate i asked him if the main course was a traditional meal and he said it was , he then answered my next question by asking if i found it salty, he explained that in Poland everything is salty… they live for salt… oh how my mother would love poland.. she is a salt connoisseur.
For the first time on this trip i had desert that was a beautiful cheese cake finished with Forrest fruits and cream… i don’t usually have desert, however seeing how in that hour of having dinner i had decided that I was done with Warsaw and had decided to moved on to the Ukraine….

One thing i left out from this chapter is that at about 3pm i had been hit by this wave of emotion, thinking about my ex girlfriend, my dog and everything i had left behind in New Zealand before fleeing my responsibility’s and emotions….and as i have learnt better to keep busy when these times hit than fester on the thoughts.
I got back to the hostel and logged into LOT Airways (Polish airlines) and booked a ticked out of Warsaw to Kiev Ukraine and also arrange a hostel for the next day as well
As i put my head on my pillow and tried to take advantage of some shut eye, the heat in the room was astronomical…. it felt like 30 degrees still.
Let see how this goes
