Team NZ is still Asleep and its creeping onto 10AM.. well half of the team is …..the female half that is.
It is day 2 in Tokyo and its planning on being hotter than yesterday!
Its currently 10Am in the Morning and I’m having a coffee and Breakfast with Ben, he is off to the Beer museum today to learn about Japanese beer culture, Alex and i will be venturing out on the Ginzu line to see a temple in Asakusa, this is about a 30 minute train ride from our local station.
Japanese culture is heavily influenced by there history and culture, these temples are scattered throughout the city but this one is particularly special due to its size and gold plated Steeple.
The temperature is about 36 but feels like 42 and as we trudged through the thick sweaty crowd we both couldn’t help but wonder if the Japanese people feel as sorry for them selves as we did,
It is quite common to see people dressed up in ceremonial Kimono gowns in this area particularly on Sundays when they show respect to there loved ones,
We wandered around the gardens and spent some time at the cleansing well, the well is a fountain which you grab a ladle or cup and wash your hand to cleanse yourself and i can tell you that the cool water as it passes over your hands is the most amazing feeling when all you want to do is die in the Melting heat!
After this Alex really wanted to introduce me to Ramen Noodle Soup….. however the place she wanted to take me to was in Chuo- Ginza, about 7 stops back up the line towards Shibuya.
Chuo seems to be an up market area, Gucci, YSL, Mont Blanc and so on and so on, the amazing thing about this part of tokyo is that on a Sunday they seem to close off the Main Street and there is a bout 2KM of empty boulevard and the locals seemed to love it.
We wandered the street for about an hour and Alex’s google maps was doing no favours and as I couldn’t read Japanese scripture i was about as useful as a pet rock!…. many swear worlds later and to Alex’s disapproval we managed to come across not a Ramen bar but a sort of you cook it yourself style lunch.
The lunch consisted of a pot of boiling water that you put you meat, vegetables and other assorted necessities into and you boil it to your liking and at the end you then drink the water… such a simple concept but very fun and very effective experience especially for a kiwi tourist!.

We then decided to zip back into Shibuya!…. i say Zip as its literally that easy, and to top it off i managed to work the ticket machine all by myself! #proudmoment and i think Alex was suppressed as well by my skills!
Shibuya is one of those places that is just like on TV, there are people dressed up like school girls, Anime characters, Blogging , V Blogging ect. And there are wall to wall of LCD Tv Displays everywhere its kind of hard to describe. There are even bars where you can go into and pay for a drink, and while you sit and enjoy yourself you can pay sexy Japanese girls to play “ Hungry Hungry Hippos” with you…. i did not try this but i saw many establishments offering this service.
When i got back to the hostel i spend some more time with Squad as tomorrow i ship out to London, I’m not sure how expensive Landon is going to be but i feel like the back pocket might hurt as the exchange rate is shit house $1000 NZD gets about 380GBP which is like getting kicked in the balls every time you use your credit card!.
Tokyo has been an amazing experience and i only wish i could have stayed longer in this metropolis of Resepct and cleanliness!
Right got to be up at 5AM to get to Narita and move onto London!
一期一会
